Food has the ability to transport us to another place and time. It can remind us of being a kid, Grandma’s house, or the comfort of home. Breathe in…What smells do you remember? I remember the smell of garlic, roasted chicken, and rice. A pie or two baking in the oven. Holidays bring about different traditional spreads. Latke is one of my favorites to look forward to from friends who celebrate Hanukkah. Cranberry sauce is a must on our Christmas table. Jerk chicken and gumbo are traditional Kwanza favorites. Whatever your traditional plates; we can share the love of these with others.
Now if you do not have joyful memories of food and family, or if there is food you would never want to recreate for obvious reasons, don’t worry there is something for you too. There are local chefs who are offering live and pre-recorded virtual workshops. This is a great way to support local businesses and learn how to cook. Additionally, some of your favorite food network chefs are doing live and pre-recorded cooking tutorials. You can learn a new dish or recreate an old one to perfection following along with a professional. I have included links below to chefs offering these virtual tutorials.
Lastly, there are Facebook and Instagram groups where local families that have a joy and love for cooking are sharing their recipes and trading secrets.
